About The Role

The post holder will work within the Direct Engagement team which forms part of NHS Professionals Doctors Direct service offering. The successful candidate will be the main point of contact for the Direct Engagement solution providing hands-on support to the client, workers, head office and external support services. A key part of the role will be building and maintaining effective working relationships with both internal and external key stakeholders to ensure we deliver exceptional service and meet agreed targets.

Working with colleagues from within Doctors Direct and account management teams, the post holder will play an active role in Direct Engagement uptake, service development as well as identifying and implementing improvement and enhancement activity linked to our Direct Engagement product.

The role will involve regular travel to clients within the south so a driving license is essential for this role.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations and account management of the Direct Engagement service at a partner trust(s)  
  • Relationship management with external stakeholders including Medical, HR, Finance, Payroll, Agencies at all levels, including Director
  • Working with Drs to proactively identify service pain points and develop solutions
  • Support with trust recruitment pipeline identification, prioritising Drs who will work under the PAYE payment method
  • Identifying and providing actionable data on a regular basis and monitoring for results
  • Educate various teams internally and externally on the importance of Direct Engagement allowing the service to reach it’s full potential.
  • Working with Product Managers and end users to identify system improvements
  • Ensuring efficient implementation  of the direct engagement service at new partner trusts ensuring maximum potential including IR35 compliance and cost savings
  • Undertake detailed analysis of complex data and present findings to senior stakeholders

About The Candidate
 Experience required:
  • Proven and demonstrable experience in the NHS or a healthcare setting 
  • Experience of success when working towards KPIs and objectives/in a target driven environment
  • Confident communicator with excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills with both candidates and clients.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with staff at all levels across a wide range of managerial and professional groups
  •  Influencing and negotiation skills
  • Experience of Account Management


  • Experience of working within the medical workforce sector
  • Experience of Direct Engagement as a service
  • Experience of designing/developing operational/strategic plans

Pay on Appointment (Internal)

  1. Moves within the same band do not attract a pay increase
  2. The salary change where an individual is being promoted to a higher band should be a move to the pay range minimum. If this increase would result in a pay rise of more than 10% the expectation is that this is spread over a period of around 6 months. If a salary increase to the bottom of the band would result in an increase of less than 5%, a 5% increase will usually be applied.
