About The Role

Are you an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Manager who is able to use your extensive safety knowledge and experience and who is looking to work in an interesting and influential role for a 12 month fixed term contract. If yes, we would love to hear from you!

The role will be responsible for maintaining and improving the Health, Safety and Environmental management systems (and their key supporting business systems) to ensure legal compliance is maintained, quality is maximised whilst also reducing Business risk. The individual is also responsible for ensuring that all legal compliance, corporate and certifications are managed and continually improved and that our Social Value performance is evidenced.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigating of accidents and ensure all documentation is updated.
  • Implementing of any new legislation relating to health and safety.
  • Facilitating all forms of risk assessment - manual handling, fire risk assessments / fire prevention, COSHH.
  • Completing occupational health and safety surveys.
  • Providing health and safety awareness training.
  • Managing the site inspection programme for both NHSP properties and Trust Services offices
  • Performing annual H&S, Environmental, Quality Assurance, Physical Security and Social Value audits
  • Be the operational lead for monthly Internal audits relating to Environmental
  • Be the point of contact for all necessary reviews of supplier submissions to our Contracts & Supplier Relationship Management system
  • Ensuring ISO standards are adhered to
  • Responsible for delivering ISO 14001 route to compliance program
  • Responsible for our Social Value data & reporting programme
  • Lead on regular Quality, Environmental and Social Value reviews
  • To support the Bids team with the development of all ESG and H&S bid submissions.
  • To be the Facilities lead on all property projects and be responsible for the management of ongoing supplier relationships for these properties

Accountabilities:

  • To maintain NHSP ISO 14001 accreditation
  • Operational ownership of NHSPs Property Estate and the relating strategy
  • To further develop our Social Value reporting programme
  • To ensure Trust services site risk assessments are complete each year
  • Ensure all First Aider and Fire Marshall responsibilities are carried out as per agreed policy and procedures.
  • Compliance: Achieve Health and Safety audit scores of 100% across our corporate offices
  • Environmental improvement: Taking the lead at NHSP towards a greener, more efficient estate including energy performance improvements as well as implementing a plan which ensures a more environmentally friendly and conscious approach to running our services.
  • Manage the development and implementation of environmental management systems within the organisation by identifying, solving and alleviating environmental issues, such as pollution and waste treatment, in compliance with environmental legislation.
Please note - This role is a hybrid role, based at either our Hemel Hempstead or Leeds office. 

About The Candidate

We are looking for someone with the following skills and experience:

Qualifications and Knowledge:

Essential

  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety
  • NEBOSH Environmental Awareness or equivalent
  • IOSH Managing Safely

Desirable

  • NEBOSH Environmental Certificate or equivalent (or working towards)
  • Environmental Management System/ISO 14001 Auditor qualification
  • NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation

Experience:

  • Health, Safety & Environmental Management experience
  • Facilities &/or Property Management experience
  • Experience of having driven the process for successfully achieving NHSP ISO 14001 accreditation in your organisation
  • Membership of a relevant professional body
