About The Role

Are you an ambitious procurement professional looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while advancing your career?

At NHS Professionals, we're seeking an experienced and commercially minded Procurement Manager to join our Procurement team and play a pivotal role in shaping how we procure and manage contracts across a £40m+ spend portfolio.

Reporting directly to the Head of Procurement, you'll have the opportunity to influence strategic, business-critical decisions, lead complex sourcing initiatives, and deliver tangible value to an organisation that supports the NHS every day.

Please note: This is a fixed-term maternity cover contract until 30 July 2027. The internal job title for this position is Sourcing Manager.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage the end-to-end procurement of non-IT spend of direct and indirect spend categories.
  • Developing and delivering category management strategies that support NHS Professionals' objectives and long-term business goals.
  • Identify opportunities to improve value through vendor consolidation, cost reduction or enhanced service levels
  • Driving commercial value through supplier negotiations, contract drafting, and robust contract governance.
  • Partnering with senior stakeholders to embed procurement best practice and deliver effective procurement solutions.
  • Leading, coaching, and developing a small team, fostering a high-performing and collaborative culture.

What we're looking for

  • Proven procurement, strategic sourcing, or category management experience within a complex organisation.
  • Strong commercial acumen with demonstrable experience in contract negotiation and drafting.
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to translate plans into action and deliver results at pace.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or coaching team members to achieve their full potential.

About The Candidate

To be successful in this post you will need to:

  • Have a collaborative and engaging approach
  • Have several years' experience in a similar role working with high value contracts
  • Ideally hold a CIPS or other relevant qualification (desirable)
  • Be able to manage priorities 
  • Work under pressure sometimes with challenging and variable timescales and deadlines
  • Engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Be an experienced negotiator with a modern and creative approach to maximising value for NHSP and its suppliers and clients
  • Experience in managing a team to reach their full potential
