We have an exciting opportunity for an interim PMO Manager to join NHS Professionals within our PMO team to support and facilitate the delivery of our business programme and projects required for NHSP to achieve their strategic objectives that are reflected in our 5-year business plan.

This role includes direct support to directors and senior management in aligning business initiatives to business strategies and providing a centre of excellence in portfolio management office (PMO). 

What will you be doing?

As a PMO Manager, you will be responsible for working with the Head of Strategic Enablement to manage the governance and controls for our business portfolio. You will be required to support and manage the upkeep of our Portfolio Project Management (PPM) Tool (Smartsheet's), ensuring project data are kept up to date, enforcing a single source of truth.

You will manage the PMO analysts and assist in all aspects of running the PMO. Additionally, you will provide guidance on PMO policies and processes, collaborating with other departments to develop projects and programmes. 

The role is multi-faceted and demands strong interpersonal skills, alongside clear verbal and written communications. 

Skills/Responsibilities: 

Working as part of the PMO team, you will: 

  • Manage the portfolio by organising, arranging, and managing the necessary inputs on a monthly and quarterly basis for the relevant Boards as necessary. 
  • Support the Head of PMO with the strategic direction of NHSP’s business strategy and the required portfolio of projects and programmes. 
  • Provide corporate governance & assurance across the projects and programmes within the portfolio, working with the appropriate governance teams and Internal Audit as necessary to incorporate their requirements. 
  • Demonstrate expertise in project, programme, and portfolio management (PPPM) methodologies and techniques and ability to customise these to meet NHSP’s needs. 
  • Ensure cross-programme and project dependencies are managed and the dependency log is accurately maintained. 
  • Work with the Head of PMO to successfully design and implement succinct lessons learned processes across Portfolio of change
  • This role requires an understanding and experience of implementing best practice as well as the development and application of project procedures, tools and techniques.   
  • Support the Head of PMO to enable the PMO to act as a Centre of Excellence; providing support and guidance for project delivery, with high quality processes, tools, standards and documentation to support delivery of projects and programmes. Including ownership of the delivery and governance frameworks.
About The Candidate

To be successful in this post you will need to be:

  • Influential and adaptable, confident and charismatic
  • Qualified to practitioner level (Prince 2, PMP or equivalent) with a background of programme management
  • Have a good working knowledge of key project processes, including status reporting, budgeting, planning and dependency management, risk and issue management, quality gates and change management.
  • Experience of developing and implementing processes, procedures and delivering projects
  • Skilled at working to tight deadlines, with a flexible nature to respond to changing priorities
  • Highly organised approach and react to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial
  • Demonstrate a strong technical knowledge encompassing processes, tools and techniques
  • Be highly motivated and able to work without supervision under pressure 
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify and implement innovative and effective business improvements
