NHS Professionals (NHSP) run the largest NHS flexible staff bank, placing highly skilled temporary workers in NHS trusts and healthcare organisations to meet short, medium and long-term staffing needs.
Uniquely, they are owned by the Department of Health and Social Care and therefore reinvest any surplus they make directly back into the wider healthcare economy. In 2022/23 this return totalled £10 million and our services also helped our clients avoid an estimated agency equivalent spend of £832 million for the NHS.
Originally formed in 2001, this multi-award-winning business now works with more than 100 NHS trusts and healthcare organisations and have over 190,000 healthcare professionals (Bank Members) registered with them.
NHSP work flexibly to NHS-assured standards in a wide range of roles including nurses and midwives, doctors, allied health professionals, healthcare scientists, personal social services and non-clinical. The organisation aligns their vision and objectives with those of the NHS and their teams use their specialist healthcare knowledge to deliver bespoke recruitment solutions to Bank Members and client trusts/organisations.
The Opportunity
Working in partnership with NHS trust clients, NHSP provides a service that combines deep understanding of the client trust’s temporary and flexible workforce requirements with the reliability, quality and value for money that a fully managed service can offer. We have a proven track record in doing this, but the surrounding marketplace is changing – whether that is being driven or ‘disrupted’ by technology, the challenge of change for NHS trusts (whether current clients or not) or the competition created by enduring workforce shortages.
Set in this exciting context, NHSP is transforming as an organisation, ensuring we are set up to thrive in the current market; this means diversifying our core offer to the NHS, as well as developing new workforce solutions. It also means completing a major technology transformation programme that will underpin our ability to drive innovation and excellence in customer service.
Our new Chief Nursing Officer will play a key role within this transformation. As our new Chief Nursing Officer, you will become a member of NHSP’s Executive Committee and take on a national Director role - the most senior clinician in NHS Professionals. You will be responsible for the professional leadership and guidance to the Board of
NHS Professionals on all matters relating to clinical governance and the professional development of our flexible
workforce. You will also provide expert professional contribution on all clinical matters, provide inspirational, dynamic professional management and leadership and ensure adherence to statutory regulation.
This is an exciting time to be joining this progressive, national organisation and to play a central role underpinning NHS Professional’s ability to increase its profile nationally and grow the number of NHS Trusts and other providers we work with.
